DAWN Response to Senate Vote on Arms Sales to Israel

In response to the U.S. Senate's April 3, 2025, vote rejecting two resolutions introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders to block $8.8 billion in arms sales to Israel, DAWN issues the following statement:

"The fifteen Senators who voted to block the sales should be commended for their commitment to upholding U.S. law and international human rights standards," said Sarah Leah Whitson, Executive Director of DAWN. "U.S. law clearly prohibits weapons transfers to governments committing gross human rights abuses or obstructing humanitarian aid."

"The Senate's vote to continue arming Israel, despite overwhelming evidence of war crimes in Gaza, is a shameful abdication of legal and moral responsibility," said Raed Jarrar, DAWN's Advocacy Director. "Continued military support for Israel makes Congress complicit in the atrocities being carried out in Gaza."
