IN THE NEWS

Michael Omer-man, Director of Research for Israel-Palestine at Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN), a Washington-based nonprofit, told TNA that the kitot konenut began as something akin to armed civilian neighbourhood watch groups. However, since October 7, they have developed formal roles through the state where they are often paid, assigned to their home areas and given military uniforms. Omer-man characterised this shift as one from "state-backed militias to state militias.

"While the UK has finally submitted to the law and given up its occupation of the Chagos Islands, Israel continues to occupy Palestinian territories, despite the clear orders of the court to evacuate and remove its settlers and forces from them."

"The new policy of oversight on U.S. military assistance, crafted in collaboration with Democratic senators led by Chris Van Hollen (Md.), "Authorizing billions of dollars in new arms transfers effectively provides Israel a carte blanche to continue its atrocities in Gaza and to escalate the conflict to Lebanon,."

"Rather than asking for additional military aid to Israel, the Biden administration should immediately suspend all arms transfers to Israel and any other rogue government that has used US weapons to commit genocide and attack embassies of neighboring countries."

"What [is the Biden administration] going to do when Netanyahu does not listen to them and goes ahead with the attack on Rafah? … Are they going to continue the same failed policy, or are they going to switch to the only option that they should have considered all along, which is not aligning themselves with a genocidal maniac?"
