In response to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech today in Israel, where he defiantly rejected domestic and international pressure pleas for a ceasefire deal, DAWN issues the following statement:
"As Netanyahu once again made explicitly clear, the Israeli government is not interested in a ceasefire or ending its mass slaughter of Palestinians," said Sarah Leah Whitson, Executive Director at DAWN. "The only appropriate course of action for the U.S. and other governments is to sanction and suspend weapons to Israel, as the U.K. today announced it will do, in compliance with domestic and international laws around the world."
"The UK's decision today to suspend arms export licenses to Israel due to the 'clear risk' of these arms being used in violation of international humanitarian law is a critical step in holding Israel accountable," said Josh Paul, DAWN's senior advisor. "With the UK finally recognizing its responsibilities under international humanitarian law, the U.S. is becoming increasingly isolated in its unwillingness to do the same."
"The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court have made it clear that individuals complicit in Israel's genocide and illegal occupation of Palestine can be held individually liable," said Raed Jarrar, DAWN's advocacy director. "This includes political leaders, military officials, and others who may face prosecution for continuing to arm Israel while it's conducting its genocide in violation of U.S. and international law."
