Outsiders Preventing Democracy

Abusive governments in the Middle East have friends throughout the world – governments, businesses, individuals, and even international organizations – who enable acts of political suppression, torture, arrest, unlawful killings, and war crimes. Foreign taxpayers can find themselves unknowingly supporting these abuses, due to decisions by their governments to provide military, financial, and diplomatic support to oppressive regimes. Consumers, shareholders and investors may also find their money going to the wrong places. Foreign actors should abide by their human rights responsibilities – and stop contributing to tyranny in the Middle East.
